Engelbert Humperdinck (September 1, 1854 – September 27, 1921) was a German composer, best known for his opera, Hänsel und Gretel (1893).

Humperdinck was innate at Siegburg, in the Rhine provinces. Within 1872 he entered a Cologne Conservatory under Ferdinand Hiller. Within 1876 he won the scholarship which enabled him to attend Munich, where he exposed using Franz Paul Lachner and later by having Josef Rheinberger. He won a Mendelssohn Stiftung (foundation) of Berlaround in 1879, & attend Italy, & became acquainted Richard Wagner in Naples. Wagner invited him to attend Bayreuth, and when you took 1880-81 Humperdinck assisted in the production of Parsifal. Getting won a second prize, nonetheless, he went over agawithin to Southern Europe, traveling across Italy, France & Spain, spending deuce years in Barcelona teaching at the conservatory. Within 1887 he returned to Cologne, & was appointed prof at a Hoch Conservatory (Frankfurt-am-Main) in 1890, & likewise teacher of harmony at Stockhausen's Vocal School. By this period he got composed many works for chorus & the Humoreske for orchestrthe, which enjoyed a vogue within Germany.

His principal reputatiin rests on his opera Hänsel und Gretel, which was produced at Weimar, 1893. Within 1896 the Kaiser manufactured Humperdinck a Prof & he attend survive at Boppard. 4 years late, still, he attend Berlin in which he was appointive head of the Meister-Schule of composition. Among his more operatic works come Dornröschen, Königskinder and Die Heirat wider Willen.

Humperdinck was greatly influenced by Richard Wagner, and worked when his helper. Inside his opera Königskinder, Humperdinck became a 1st composer to utilise Sprechgesang, a vocal system midway between singing and speaking, and late exploited by Arnold Schoenberg.
